Our History

Founded in 1918, Ridgewood is an independent elementary school serving Springfield, Ohio and its neighboring communities. Originally serving grades 1, 2 and 3, the school now serves grades K through 8.

Ridgewood was originally located in a building on Harding Road but is now located on a five-acre site situated in a semi-rural setting on the northwestern edge of Springfield.  This allows us the opportunity for outdoor recreational activities, science labs in the natural world, and the ability to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Ridgewood has a "Wall of Honor" featuring photographs of our graduating students.  Visitors love to stroll this hallway to find recognizable names of friends, family members, and community leaders.

Our graduates have been recognized as national merit scholars, valedictorians, and salutatorians, and have received recognition and awards for service to their communities.

Our faculty have been recognized for excellence as well.  Awards include nomination to Who's Who in American Teachers, recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Educational Excellence, and nominations for Excellence in Teaching award.

Ridgewood is a non-profit corporation governed by a board of trustees. Ridgewood is a member of the Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS).

We are looking forward to our hundredth anniversary, and hope you will be part of our family celebration!
